Uudet suopalkinnot suomalaisille suotutkijoille tai tutkimustiedon hyödyntäjille (in English below)
Suoseura jakaa ensimmäistä kertaa historiassaan kaksi palkintoa ansioituneille suoammattilaisille, joiden toiminta on merkittävästi lisännyt soihin liittyvää tietoa tai sen hyödyntämistä. Palkinnot aiotaan jatkossa myöntää jokaisena parillisena vuotena Suopäivän yhteydessä. Palkintojen saajilla tulee olla selkeä kytkös suomalaiseen suotutkimukseen tai Suomen soiden ja niiden luonnonvarojen suojeluun ja kestävään käyttöön. Tarkemmat kriteerit palkintojen saajille on kuvattu alla. Suoseuran hallitus pyytää esityksiä palkintojen saajiksi lyhyen perustelun kera 29.1.2026 mennessä osoitteessa https://forms.gle/mdyK7KczS7N6Vaiv5 . Suoseuran jäsen voi esittää kummankin palkinnon saajaksi yhtä ehdokasta, jonka ei tarvitse olla Suoseuran jäsen. Palkinnon saajat ehdokkaiden joukosta valitsee Suoseuran hallitus, joka konsultoi tarvittaessa ulkopuolista asiantuntijaa. Palkintojen saajat julkistetaan Suopäivä-seminaarin yhteydessä eli seuraavan kerran 5.2.2026.
Turpeenmuodostaja-palkinto ansiokkaalle suoaiheiselle väitöskirjalle Palkinto myönnetään tieteellisesti korkeatasoiselle, suo- tai turveaiheiselle väitöskirjalle. Väitöskirjan tulee olla saanut väittelylupa viimeisen kahden vuoden aikana (1.1.2024-31.12.2025). Väitöskirja on laadittu suomalaisessa yliopistossa ja/tai huomattava osa sen aineistosta tulee suomalaisilta soilta.
Turveprofiili-palkinto ansiokkaalle työlle suoaiheisen tutkimuksen tai tutkimustiedon hyödyntämisen hyväksi Palkinto myönnetään suoalan toimijalle, joka on työllään edistänyt syvällistä ymmärrystä soiden toiminnasta, maankäytöstä, suojelusta tai luonnonvaroista tai on merkittävästi edistänyt tutkimustiedon hyödyntämistä soiden käytössä ja suojelussa. Palkinnon saaja on aktiivisessa uravaiheessa ja työskennellyt suoalalla Suomessa tai suomalaisten soiden hyväksi.
New peatland awards for Finnish peatland researchers or users of scientific information
For the first time in its history, the Finnish Peatland Society awards two prizes to distinguished peatland professionals whose activities have significantly increased scientific knowledge on peatlands or the utilization of scientific information. In the future, the prizes will be awarded every even-numbered year during Suopäivä -seminar. The recipients of the awards must have a clear connection to Finnish peatland research or to the protection and sustainable use of Finnish peatlands and their natural resources. More detailed criteria for the award recipients are described below. The board of the Finnish Peatland Society invites nominations for the awards with a short justification by 29.1.2026 at https://forms.gle/mdyK7KczS7N6Vaiv5 . A member of the Finnish Peatland Society may nominate one candidate for both awards, who does not have to be a member of the Society. The board of the Finnish Peatland Society selects, potentially after consulting an external expert, the recipients of the award from among the candidates. The winners of the awards will be announced in connection with the Peatland Day seminar, i.e. next time on 5 February 2026.
Peat Formation Award for a distinguished doctoral dissertation on peatlands The prize is awarded to a doctoral dissertation of a high scientific standard on a topic related to peatlands or peat. The dissertation must have been granted permission to defend the dissertation within the last two years (1.1.2024-31.12.2025). The dissertation has been made at a Finnish university, and/or a significant part of its material comes from Finnish peatlands.
Peat Profile Award for meritorious work for peatland-related research or the utilisation of scientific knowledge The award is given to a person or organization in the peatland sector whose work has promoted an in-depth understanding of the function, land use, protection or natural resources of peatlands, or has significantly promoted the utilisation of research data in the sustainable use and protection of peatlands. The recipient of the award is in an active career stage and has worked in the peatland sector in Finland or for the benefit of Finnish peatlands.
